I am very honored to be a recipient of the Thomas Dammann Junior Memorial Trust Awards 2023. I have received funding for a project centered on the transmission of traditional craft skills.
I believe that the act of creating objects imbues them with a type of residue; producing works which hold information in a physical form. In an increasingly digital and automated world this type of physical knowledge is becoming more and more rare. Being able to create, to show and to feel are equally valuable aspects of the transfer of knowledge between generations.
As Michael Polanyi: “I shall reconsider human knowledge by starting from the fact that we can know more than we can tell.”
